Best Shoes for Parkour: What to Look For Before You Buy
Share
Your shoes are your most important piece of parkour gear. The right pair gives you grip on walls and rails and protects your feet when you land. The wrong pair slips, breaks fast or hurts your ankles.
1. Grip
Look for a soft rubber sole with a flat or lightly patterned surface. It should stick to concrete, brick and metal. Hard plastic soles slip.
2. Sole thickness
- Thin sole: better feel for precision jumps and rails.
- Medium sole: more cushioning for big drops. Most beginners prefer a medium sole.
3. Flexibility
Bend the shoe with your hands. It should flex easily at the front so your foot can move naturally.
4. Weight
Lighter is better. Heavy running shoes or boots make every jump harder.
5. Fit
Snug, but your toes shouldn't touch the front. Your heel must not slide up when you run.
Mistakes to avoid
- Big "air" cushions: they're unstable on landings.
- Very smooth or worn soles.
- Buying a size up "to grow into".
